From Unaccepted to Accepted

A few days ago I wrote about my experiences transitioning from Greece to the states. I would like for every one to know that there is a systematic purpose to why I am going back in time and bringing up some past “hurts.” I want you all to know that I have worked through these pasts experiences with sound counsel through some healthy and Godly people. My main purpose with these stories is to provide hope to the hopeless through them, yes, they are sad, but the outcome of all these experiences is more than just a story, it’s life altering.I am no longer in bondage to any of these past tragic/traumatizing events.Thank you all who have shown concern, it speaks volumes to how caring you are.

I never explained “Greece.” Simply put, I moved there when I was 18 months and moved back to the states between the ages of four and five. It was a challenging transition but instinct and survival mode kicked in. When we moved from the southern end of the Greek Orthodox Church we attended up to the Northern end of it I enrolled with the Greek Orthodox Youth Association (GOYA), basketball, and soccer. Those were the glorious days!!! I was twelve years old and I was introduced to all these “cool” people.  I will never forget how I looked up at the older teens in high school, I was only in junior high but those people in high school, in my mind back then I couldn’t wait to be their friends! Well, at the age of 12 how did I know I was going to be friends with boys and girls who were two years or even four years and later on even six years older than me? I had a feeling I guess you can say. Those who know me will agree with this statement and will vouch that I am not speaking in arrogance, that the younger crowd, my age group, and more specifically the older kids really liked me therefore included me within their “clicks.” I was very athletic and wanted to play on the eighth grade team but in order to do that I needed to practice, so I spent the summer after the seventh grade school year was over practicing and playing at the school yard. When Fall came around not only did I make the eighth  grade team but STARTED! We had such a good time. Junior high were very crucial years for me because I transitioned from being unaccepted by my peers to being highly accepted by them. At this point if a cigarette was offered to me or even a beer, I would do anything to avoid rejection!!! So I took the offer, and THAT part of my journey began.
